Dear Clients:

The Government of Canada announced today an Economic Response Plan to combat the financial impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. Key initiatives include the following:
 

  • Extension of the personal tax return filing deadline to June 1, 2020, and an extension of the payment deadline to after August 31
  • Extension of the corporate tax payment deadline to after August 31, 2020
  • Extension of the filing deadline for December 31, 2019 Trusts to May 1, 2020
  • Emergency Care Benefit up to $900 bi-weekly for up to 15 weeks for workers including self-employed who are sick, quarantined or forced to stay home to care for children – application will be available in April
  • Doubling of the GST Credit for eligible individuals by way of a special one-time payment in early May
  • Increase to the Canada Child Benefit by $300 per child for the 2019-20 benefit year
  • 6 month moratorium on repayment of Canada Student Loans
  • 3 month wage subsidy for small businesses up to $1,375 per employee and $25,000 per business

Notwithstanding the extensions provided by the government we continue to encourage all personal tax clients to provide their 2019 tax information to us as soon as it is complete. As per our previous communication, we do prefer that you provide your information to us electronically using our secure portal or by email/mail/courier but for now we will continue to accept deliveries to the office.
 
At the suggestion of public health officials we will no longer be conducting client meetings in person but will instead correspond using telephone and email – we apologize to all our clients in advance for this inconvenience but hope that you understand that this is in response to the unprecedented situation we all find ourselves in.
